“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Gen. 2:24).

When we find the "one" person to spend the rest of our lives, we rarely think about what this truly means.  We believe that our relationship will be like a fairy tale.  My prince (or princess) has arrived and we will live, "happily ever after."  We have no idea that marriage takes daily work.  With no easy fix in sight, the comfort of another may seem like the only answer.  DON'T GO THERE!  Instead, give me a call.  We will work together and put together a plan of action.  I hope to hear from you soon.

In the October 2013 conference talk, Like a Broken Vessel, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland discusses the impact of mental and emotional health on the individual and their family.  "...these afflictions are some of the realities of mortal life, and there should be no more shame in acknowledging them than in acknowledging a battle with high blood pressure or the sudden appearance of a malignant tumor."  It is difficult to acknowledge, "I am depressed."  We worry, "What will other people think?"  We need to get past this.  We are here to support one another, to build relationships, and to show love.  Heavenly Father knows what you are going through; stay hopeful, keep your faith and get help.  Don't let your suffering continue.

As I pondered what to write in this section, the Savior's experience on the Earth came to mind.  For the short years that He was here, He suffered much.  We can not comprehend the emotional and physical pain He experienced in the Garden and on the Cross.  Our mortal journey prepares us to be in His presence again.  There are times though, that we just want the pain to stop.  Where we feel like we are not sure we can go on.  We know what the Lord expects of us. Giving up is not an option.  "Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life"(2Nephi 31:20).  Keep moving!
